And she told me I was
too far away
if only she had known
and she told me she was
afraid to stare at the moon
or you’ll get moonstruck
and I’d always prefer to
be outside those windows
in the salt-misted dark
how one day the fog parted
and even though I tried
never to look away
don’t look don’t look
on the coldest nights
she had to go and she went
you never said goodbye
it’s easy to believe in that
thin light and the doorstep
who waits there now?
where she told me I was
