November beckons promising
freedom
in shades of gray & brown
summer’s baroque
branches & vines stripped
down to necessities
at last respite
from July’s cruel glare
August’s desultory meanderings
harvested the hopes
of growing things striving upward
fulfilled the vows earnest
& feigned of an intricate web
in whose center we are not
