Of Your Company (Poem 181)

This pear-shaped desire, breathless
Swaggering courtship,
This request, spoken soft and heavy,
Tucked dearly into a fluted paper cup,
Sanguine swirl of sugar icing, pristine
As lavender snow, the pleasure
Of your incomparable company
