Hourglass (Poem 209)

And now, the stars begin
to shine, strung like beads
upon a silken web, each yearning
to be studied, each recalled,
some fervent, some forgiving
as the darkness when
the dreamer, wakened, knows
the torpid heartbeat of the hours
and hears the silver whisper as
the stars slip through the narrow
middle of the glass.
