The Decider (Poem 183)

"I don't like your game,
and I don't want to
play with you," said
the brown-eyed boy
as he scrambled to his feet
and brushed the musty sand
from his seat. "So you
can't play anything either!"
As he walked away,
the peaches-and-cream girl
and her freckled older brother
sat still, stunned into inaction.
Then they, too, stood up
and went home,
leaving the sandbox
empty.
