Layers of Freedom (Poem 286)

Small girl
votes yes for
revolution    she falls
from the sky
a tumbleweed
seeking buttery layers
of freedom    burrowing
into the prominent
lap of home    she petals open
and rain falls
glorious    ancestral memories
counter
aspirations    a treaty with
the future    a pact
with the past    watchful
hopeful dunes of her
expectant heart crossed
with the provocative
tracks of massive
armored trucks    buried
under the shifting sands of her
heated experience    there
is no real choice
